Hey all, it’s me, your friendly neighborhood artist. Let me start off by apologizing profusely for the complete silence that’s come from my end since my last blog update went up announcing the hiatus. I’ve received an incredible amount of encouraging replies and notes concerning that, for which you all have my most sincere thanks. You rock, there’s nothing more to it.

Unfortunately, while the situation that initially caused the hiatus has changed, it hasn’t changed in a direction that’s very conducive to comic drawing. I basically haven’t drawn at all lately aside from a stray sketch here and there, which is due in part to changes in my life that have made it hard to focus on art, and also to a lack of space for drawing to happen when I CAN focus on it.

In short, Half Death is still on hiatus. To be honest, at this point I can’t guarantee that it ever will really be back again. There’s a steadily increasing list of other projects that I want to work on, and the more time goes by the less HD feels like my top priority. I don’t want to leave it unfinished, but at the same time I want to do too many other things now.

So that’s what’s going on right now, basically. Sorry I couldn’t give you better news, but I feel obligated to at least give you some sort of news.

If anyone’s interested, I’ve made a Tumblr account for art-related things. I’m kinda hoping that posting stuff there and surrounding myself with other art-related accounts will help get me back into drawing mode.

All of you have noticed by now that the updates have become rather infrequent. In the past few months my life basically went from being unemployed and having all the time in the world to draw, to working a full time job and actually having people who want to spend time with me (what is up with THAT?). I’ve been spending the little time I still have to draw doing nothing but comics, which has honestly become rather tiring. And now I’m planning another big move to a new state again.

The point is, I need a break for a bit. I need some time to focus on work and moving and all that other boring life stuff. I also need some time just to draw other things; I can’t work on only one project and absolutely nothing else without resenting it, and I don’t want to resent Half Death. I feel stifled because there’s all this stuff in my head that I don’t have time to draw, and it’s starting to make it really hard to keep pressing on with the comics.

So, Half Death is going on hiatus. This absolutely does not mean it is finished; I have a lot of plans for it that I still would like to see through, plus I know I won’t be able to stay off of it for long. I just need to take a bit of a breather. I can’t say how long this will be for, all I can say is to maybe just check in every so often and see what’s going on. I may post some sketches here and there if I draw anything HD-related, so there might be some activity on the site.

You all rock. I hope you understand and don’t hate me too much.

I’m going out of town tomorrow which is why this is up a few days early, and also why (AUGHH) the next comic still isn’t finished.

Holiday time is crazy time.

I had so much fun drawing that ass, I didn’t even realize she didn’t have hands until just now.

Two weeks later, continuation!

I’m really sorry about what happened last week. We’re nearing the end of this group of colored comics now; once it’s switched back I should be able to get back on schedule.

Oooooooooo.

I really should have done this a while ago, but I was being stubborn and thought, surely I can do two colored comics a week while working a full time job! Unfortunately – as you’ve probably guessed considering the frequent missed updates – that has not been the case, so until this storyline is complete I’m going to be updating once a week. It sucks, I know, but this way you continue to get well done, finished comics instead of something half assed because I ran out of time.

If you want to catch the updates the moment they happen, since this is kinda a shaky schedule, I announce them all on both Twitter and Facebook, so follow away! Otherwise just check in on either Thursday or Friday and there’ll be a comic. I’ll let you know as soon as the schedule goes back to Tuesday and Thursday; it shouldn’t be very long.

Apologies for how late this strip is going up (though it’s still technically Thursday). I had it just about finished last night but I was starting to feel sick again, so I decided to go to bed and finish it up today.

I realized that the next comic wasn’t going to be finished in time, so here are some design sketches instead for the new characters. It’s better than nothing…?

I rarely ever draw below the waist when designing someone unless I have a specific reason to, as was the case with Jeremy. Oh, and both SABEL guys were based off of real musicians. See if you can figure out who. (One will probably be easier than the other.)

Sorry for being a slacker. I really am trying to keep up with it.
